She went and washed her face and fell loosely on the couch staring aimlessly at the wall. Her eyes fell on the calender hanging on the opposite wall. A cold shiver ran down her spine and before she knew a tear drop tumbled down her cheeks. She took a deep breath and wiped the tear of her cheeks. It had been 20 years now, but the wounds were still fresh in her soul.

29th December 1991, Mithya was returning home after attending her coaching classes. It was a cold stormy winter night and Mithya was running back home before the last light went off. Just as she reached the corner of the street that adjoined her house and the Kali temple, she met Kalp , her fathers’ younger brother. Kalp , two years elder to Mithya was a notorious lad whose only work was to trouble the village girls. Mithya did not like her uncle or his behavior and always kept a distance from him.

He stopped Mithya and asked her to sit on his cycle so they could reach home faster, Mithya politely refused and continued walking , when Kalp stopped her again and in an authoritative voice asked her to sit on the cycle. Mithya , not wanting to raise the anger of her father , sat at the back of his cycle, for she knew had she refused Kalp would have complained to his brother. They reached home in a few minutes, drenched.

Mithya ran inside calling out to her mother, but got no response. She turned around to check in the neighborhood when Kalp told her that her parents had gone to her mothers’ village and would only return the next evening.

A fear ran down her spine. She had always doubted her young uncle’s intentions and detested the idea of being alone with him on any given circumstances.

She decided to quickly eat her meal and go to her room. She quickly finished her meal and ran to her room. She knew her uncle will call her for some work or the other and so she decided to sleep early to avoid summoning to her uncles’ demands. She turned off the lights and lay still in her bed. She could here Kalps’ footsteps outside her door. He peeped in to see what she was up to and then went away for a while. Mithya, breathed a sigh of relief and decided to sleep. It was almost an hour now when Mithya felt something awkward around her. She tried to jump out and reach for the lights, but a hand tightly held her , restricting her movements . She tried to scream out for help , but Kalp quickly gagged her . He then tied her hands to the bedpost and entered her body repeatedly fondling with her body. She tried to scream and cry for help, but her shoved the piece of cloth that gagged her deeper , almost choking her. He then ran down his tongue across her cheeks and then her neck and then further lower down her body. He then got up and left the room , after untying her.

Mithya lay there agonizing in pain and trauma…. shivering. She did not get ready for the school next day. Kalp entered her room in the evening again warning her not to breathe a word about the incident. Her parents came in the evening and she went to meet her mother, who sensed something wrong.

She entered Mithya’s room later that night asking her what had happened . Mithya just caught her mother and started crying. After a lot of cajoling Mithya finally told her mother of the gruesome incident. Her mother was shocked and disgusted.

She decided to go to Mithya’s father and ask him to throw his brother out of the house. Mithya’s father a true chauvinist, on hearing this reacted in a very heated manner and asked Mithya and her mother to leave the house immediately.

He believed Mithya tempted his brother and forced herself upon him . He said she was a harlot and accused her mother of not teaching her daughter the right values. Mithya was a black mark on her fathers’ name and he wished for her to leave with her mother immediately. Mithya stood there motionlessly while her mother gathered their clothes and left the house dragging Mithya behind her.

20 years now, but the wounds of that night are still fresh in her mind. With the help of the NGO where she now works, she filed a case against Kalp ten years ago. She still patiently waits for justice and lives each day in the hope to achieve it.

The Hyatt Regency Cambridge has a new promotion running which provides residents with complimentary internet for 1 night in exchange for becoming a fan of their Facebook Page. However according to Atif Nazir who took the photo, the company appears to be tracking actual traffic and actions of the user rather than using any form of official integration with Facebook.

We’ve seen plenty of strategies used by companies to drive fan growth. As Dennis Yu wrote this morning, figuring out cheap ways to drive fans is important. In this case the hotel is willing to forgo $12.95 of revenue in exchange for a user becoming a fan. So far the strategy has resulted in the addition of 380 fans. While the company was avoiding $12.95 in revenue, it’s difficult to attribute that to the cost.

To hear from a father “I wonder why you were born to me.”

To have a sister who never cares who you are.

To have a brother who long back has forgotten your existence.

To have a friend who never replies.

To have relatives who just smiles.

Then you too are an orphan.

It was 22:30 when Meeta’s car entered her apartments’ basement . She quickly parked her car and took the lift up to her newly purchased penthouse. Meeta had bought the penthouse as a gift for her husband Jitesh’s birthday last month.

Jitesh, 32, was a software engineer by profession. He had been laid off during the recession that had hit the world and was searching for a new job. In the meanwhile he had been babysitting and  taking care of their 2 years old daughter.

Meeta quietly took out the house keys and turned the lock open, making sure not to make any noise. She knew her daughter would have been sleeping now and the noise may disturb her.

She entered the house and hung the set of car key on the key holder by the wall. she slipped back the house key in her bag and walked towards the room. The balcony light was on and she could see Jitesh sitting by the corner with a glass in his hand. She said a quick hello to him and went inside the bedroom to see her daughter and change.She quickly slipped into her night dress and went to the balcony to greet Jitesh.

She sat beside him and soft laid her arm around his shoulder, he shrugged his shoulder and rose to make himself another drink. Meeta playfully caught his wrist and pleaded not to drink any more as he had , had a lot and was not in his senses. Jitesh snapped back at her and went in to get another drink .

Jitesh had been off a job for a very long time and the frustration of sitting idle at home was suffocating him from within. Meeta had sensed the tension and the turmoil he went through and tried her best to make things better.

He came back with a filled glass and stood at the edge of the balcony gazing out at the sky. Meeta wiped of her tears and stood next to him. She looked at him with her damp eyes and tried to ask him to be patient. She knew he was very talented and would soon get a nice offer . She placed her hand on his shoulder and whispered in his ears.

Jitesh was far too frustrated and high to think logically at that moment. The vacuum created by his unemployment was bubbling within him like a hot molten lava. He was obligated to vent it out before it devoured him .

He impetuously shrugged Meeta’s hand off his shoulder with a sudden force and turned away . Meeta taken aback by his gesture lost her balance off the balcony’s railing. She shrieked for his name in a helpless despair.

He turned back, alarmed by her sudden shriek, just to see her fall off the railing. He made a quick attempt to catch her and pull her back into his arms, but missed her by a nano second.

He ran out of the house frantically in an attempt to save her. The lift was at the 5th floor and so he raced down the stairs. Meeta was descending down still screaming out for her life, with her eyes shut in sheers helplessness. She knew her end awaited her and nothing could bring her back. Images of her daughter and her marriage swayed past her eyes as she hit the gravel with a big THUD !

Soaked in sweat, Jitesh reached the spot gasping for breath to see Meeta lying there still in a pool of her own blood, flowing from her head. Her stone still eyes, that still had their dampness looked up to their balcony. He knelt down beside her and slowly took her hand in his hand, stroking it gently gazing into her lifeless eyes.

At first, I used to scribble the important reminders on my palm, but that sort of information was subjected to volatility of the worst kind – di hydrogen oxide (H2O) abraded it..!! Then I came up with another idea of making a list of things to do and places where I kept my things.But ironically, I’d lose the paper on which I had made such lists.

Sometimes, well, most of the time I forget the location of a file on my hard disk. But we have the luxury of a simple search button to retrieve it..why cant our lives be made simpler the same way??!!

So, I began keeping the lists I make in places I’d most frequent- like inside the refrigerator, on the box of my favorite snack etc.. But certain constraints still existed !! Like my kitten who loves chewing on bits of paper and my mom throwing the papers imagining them to be junk . These constraints actuated me to come up with yet another brilliant idea!

Then I thought- It was right there!! With me all the while, its sling hanging around my neck and resting on my chest – My mobile phone!!

And then, I selected the reminder option and set the alarm!! Technology Triumphed!! I defeated my weakness finally! I was overwhelmed with joy..!! Really..What an Idea Sir ji!! The alarm then went off..But hey- what was that I was supposed to remember??

Have your ever thought about it ??? Yeah yeah I know you do…After all thats the number we want to be in our life , isn’t it ? We all want to be no.1 in so and so ..the whole rat race revolves around this ..We say that we don’t know for whom and what we are running for , yet isn;t that digit we are running for , on a second thought ? To be the no.1 in my office , to be the no.1 ( in other words best ) in my family ..I should be the 1st to get this and blah blah …Phew ..No.1 is really lucky , for he rules amongs all the numbers , and makes everybody dance to his tunes ..I wish I could be such “one”

Imagine a world without Mr.1 ??

No competitions , no races , no deadlines , no work !! Life would really be so rosy and peaceful …But yeah , without it , “one” wouldnt see the world as it is now …It was “one” idea that changed the mode of communication , it was “one” idea that revolutionised the world , its just “one” idea that changes the perspective , “one” role model that world respects to and on personal notes “one” word of appreciation we crave for , “one” thing we live for , blah blah…Ah ! so many “ones” ! Now I am totally confused ..or the “one”ly confused “one” ?:P

On a second thought of “one” , I was thinking of the curses it receives …So many ‘ones’ !! “one” discovery that puts human race at stake , “one” moment changes the course of life , “one” man that threats the whole world , “one” tragic instance that leaves its imprints for years , the death of a close”one” , “one ” makes feel us lonely , the odd “ones” left …Hmmmm ..This “one” is really sometimes the worst ‘one’ na ??

Oh ..I have bored you with many “one”s now ..So I don’t want to make it a long “one” and waste your time ..but I have “one” question – How was this “one” ??? – good “one” ya bad “one” ? Just reply an honest “one” answer :D

1. Take a plane to the polynesian islands.

2. Switch off your cell phones or best throw it in the ocean!!

3. Find the most reclusive hotel in the area.

4. Make sure you carry enough food (if you are an indian) otherwise be ready to feast on crabs, lobsters , etc..

5. Take a walk by the beachside under the moonlight.

6. Dont go there.. if you are alone.!! It wont serve the purpose.

She tried from the next morning to teach by associating but she miserably failed. She never really made the kids understand the subject. Keeping my exams aside I thought I should do something about this. I took the lead. I went the next morning, and sat on the teacher’s desk. The students were surprised. So far, they knew me only as a neighbor, but now I was their teacher. I went ahead teaching them about the very same solar eclipse. It was something like this:

“Everything was very weird that day! It was dark, the sky was red. It took a long time for me to wake up and I was looked up on as a scary creature. I once believed I was the greatest in the entire universe. I thought nothing would work or move without my exertion of strength, power. The pride and the legacy that I held for years were going to get shattered that day. I saw him, my little brother, getting ready to retaliate on me. I could not justify his retaliation. He felt he was not given all importance; does not wield as much strength as I do. He never changed or was a cause for change. The spring tides might wait for him but nothing else I cogitated once. But never have I disrespected him. Come on we brought human life. Without us nothing goes smooth. But my fate was sealed. I had to witness my gross death by my very own kin.The clock started ticking, and I was expecting my brother to appear before me to blow me off. They happily were preparing for my demise. My death was so welcomed by the world, which once considered me of some incarnation! Some take my blessings, some stalk me for hours. It was annoying and eerie when they sent stalkers to keep a track on my pace. I never despised, but this day! They called it remarkable, they called it a history. I was dying! How would it feel, when u know you’re going to die and the world would see and rejoice and yet you have to work till you die. What if I had shut off before I died? What would have happened, had I not shown up one day? They never thought of all that. I see the flowers, bees, birds, and clouds as happy as ever. My counterpart was getting ready to blow me off, and take my position, my pride, the legacy that I was holding on to. It was not scared, for I am not afraid of death. It was not one or two years but forty years for him to avenge his anger on me. Every day I turn back to my place after my fulfilled day, I have never seen my brother wait for me to treat me with greet. It read 10:50 A.M. I was beating for my life. I could not take this, I would mind if the cloud covers me, the wind blowing me. But my very own brother who perpetually held the universe and dominated to great heights shook my soul. I was burning; the clouds and sky became dark. I saw my brother approaching me. He was as young as ever. His pure heart reflected on his very appearance. Jealousy, the lust for taking my power, my vigor, and my pride was seen in his eyes. I smiled at him, as I did not want to disappoint him. I stood still there. I gazed at his white face as it has been years since I saw it. He approached my boundary surrounded by fire; the time was 10.59 A.M and in another wink I was going to be engulfed in his arms and the world would rejoice this moment. People gathered and hailed to see this very moment that is happening after forty years in the history. My death was very slow unlike before. It was painfully long. Four hours of painful engulfment to death. Winds stopped, it was dark all of a sudden. I surrendered for my greedy brother happily. He blew me off. My death was captured. Those alien creatures and stalkers surrounded my half dead debris and spread their metallic rods. I smiled and resented the moment. Before i disappeared, he looked at me and said,” see you, i am born after you die”. And I was gone. The dark night prevailed. I took a new birth the next day. I shined again!”

I started as a story, comparing the Sun and the Moon, as two brothers. The very same guy, now knew solar eclipse beyond those books and pages. The IDEA indeed worked. Sometimes in life, we never know when we are a student and when we are a master. But whichever character we take, the IDEA of doing it to the best should never go!
